Car Hire in Split city center, Croatia

Every rental car in our company is owned by Flarent. We do not sublet any vehicles. The list below shows our collection of veachels, with all daily rates:

• Economy car manual for €60/day. 5 seats, 4–5 cases, A/C. This is the default choice for couples on a one-week journey along the Dalmatian coast.
• Comfort car manual for €65/day. It has a larger boot, more legroom, and the same fuel economy as the economy model. 
• Intermediate group manual for €70/day. 5 seats, 4–5 cases, the sensible saloon for two-adult holidays. Invite your friends to join you for the weekend.
• Intermediate group automatic for €70/day. Same chassis, automatic gearbox. No surcharge over the manual.
• Caravan or station wagon manual, €85 per day. Seats five, fits four to five cases, and has extra boot space. Great for ski racks in winter, paddleboards in summer, or families with lots of luggage.
• Economy car automatic for €80/day. The automatic option for drivers who do not want to relearn a manual on the right.
• Full-seats group manual (7-seater), €120/day. 7 seats, 4–5 cases. Perfect for a bigger group road trip to explore Croatia.
• Van with manual (9-seater), €150 per day. This is our wedding and transfer category. Seats nine people, fits four to five cases.

Every quote includes free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup, partial payment at booking, instant confirmation, unlimited mileage, and the full insurance package below.

Every rental car includes third-party liability (the equivalent of fully comprehensive third-party), Collision Damage Waiver with a low excess, TP Theft protection with a deductible, FIT - Ferry, island, and transit through Neum permission, and young (< 21) and senior (60+) drivers. You can also add a child seat.

Cross-border travel to Bosnia & Herzegovina is allowed with a Green Card extension. Let us know when you book, and we will have the documents ready in the glovebox when you pick up your car.

What is not included is fuel (collect full, return full), tolls (the A1 motorway to Zagreb is €26,40 each way), and any traffic penalties incurred during the rental.

We hand cars over at three locations, all included in the headline rate:

1. Split Airport (SPU): We will meet you at the arrivals exit. Full details are available on our Split airport car hire page.
2. Downtown or city center: We deliver to your hotel, apartment, or Airbnb anywhere inside the Split ring road. More details are in the section below.
3. Flarent office at Obala kneza Domagoja 3: This is the walk-in option if you are already in central Split and prefer to pick up your key at the counter.

Pick-up in central Split - the city-center option

If you are already in central Split or anywhere inside the city ring, Flarent can deliver your hire car to your door. If your apartment is in this area, we can deliver the car to your curb at your chosen time. We will message you when the driver leaves the office (usually 5 to 10 minutes before arrival) and again when we arrive. If you are outside the ring, we can deliver for a fee. The fee is clearly quoted at the time of booking and depends on the location.

Parking around the city center

Parking in the historic city is paid by zone using the SMS short code on the meter. The best thing to do is to use the car only when you actually need it in the old town. The traffic in Split can get heavy, especially during the summer months. The center around Diocletian's palace and on the Riva beachfront promenade is pedestrian-only.

In Split and Croatia, you drive on the right. The roads are well-built and clearly signed. The A1 motorway is wide, modern, and not crowded except in July and August. The next thing is the toll booths on the A1. Take a ticket when you enter, pay when you exit. You can use contactless payment. 

Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on open roads, 110 km/h on faster A-roads, and 130 km/h on motorways. Headlights must be on at all times from late October to late March. We will set this for you before you pick up the car. For breakdowns, call 1987 (HAK, Croatian Automobile Club). 

Croatia has strict drink-driving laws. Zero tolerance for drivers under 24 and a 0.5% limit for everyone else, which is lower than in most other countries.

Last-minute rent a car in Split

During the low season (November to April), last-minute means booking within 48 hours, and we almost always have cars available. In the shoulder season (May, June, September, October), booking within 48 hours can be difficult for automatics and 7-seaters. In the high season (July and August), last-minute means booking within 7 days.

We keep a small reserve fleet for walk-ins.
