The e-scooter is the most overlooked mode of transportation for exploring Split. It is silent, quick enough for any urban distance, free to park on most curbs, and rideable by anyone over 16 with no license or paperwork. Flarent e-scooter rental in Split offers a long-range, stand-on e-scooter limited to 25 km/h with a 3-hour battery range. The highly recommended routes are the Marjan promenade and the seafront from the Riva to Žnjan.

Croatian law treats stand-on electric scooters as a single category if they have a top speed of 25 km/h or less, and as a separate category if they exceed that speed. Flarent rents only the 25 km/h class because the rules are simpler and it is safer in Split's mixed-traffic environment.
The single model in the current fleet is a stand-on electric scooter with a 25 km/h top speed (electronically limited), a real-world 30 km battery range, built-in LED lights, and a folding aluminum frame for easy storage in the apartment overnight. The minimum age is 16 by law. A helmet, a D-lock with cable, and a charger for the standard EU two-pin socket are not included. Prices are per hour: 1 hour for €10, 2 hours for €20, and 3 hours for €30. 3 hours is the maximum that you can rent.
What you can actually experience on an e-scooter in Split
The Marjan peninsula is the popular route, and the one most of our e-scooter customers do first. The asphalt path from the Riva to the cross at the top of Marjan is 4 km one way. The whole peninsula loop is 8 km. You can then go back along the seafront from the foot of Marjan to Bačvice and Žnjan. This is mostly a flat, protected path. You will still have plenty of charge for a coffee detour to Manuš and home.
Outside the immediate center, rideable destinations include Stobreč, east along the coast, mostly on a dedicated cycle path. The other one is the Žnjan-to-Firule beach circuit, which is an entirely car-free loop recommended for anyone new to stand-on scooters. Solin, Trogir, Omiš, and Klis are not reachable locations.
The places we will gently steer you away from:
- Central Old Town - the Diocletian's Palace is mostly cobbles, and the streets are narrow. Pedestrian density is high in summer, and stand-on scooters are stopped by the city police.
- The cruise port road - heavy bus and lorry traffic, no shoulder, real safety risk.
- The road to Klis is a 350 m vertical climb on a busy two-lane road that no 25 km/h scooter has any business being on.
Legal bits
The current Croatian rules for the 25 km/h class:
- Minimum rider age 14 (we hire only 16+ for liability reasons)
- Helmet mandatory under 16, recommended for adults (we provide one regardless)
- No motorcycle or car license required
- Permitted on cycle paths, urban roads, residential roads - not permitted on the A1 motorway or on pedestrianized streets
- Lights mandatory after dusk (the fleet has built-in front and rear LEDs)
- One rider per scooter - no doubles, no children on the deck
The police presence on the Marjan path is gentle, and enforcement is mainly aimed at riders who go too fast through pedestrian sections. Ride sensibly, and you will not have a problem. If you are stopped, hand over the rental envelope. The scooter is properly registered, and the documents inside are the documents the police want to see.
Who shouldn't hire an e-scooter?
Anyone who has never ridden a stand-on machine before and is over 65. Anyone with a balance condition, anyone who has had more than two drinks, and anyone planning long open-road distances rather than urban hops. For those riders, the city bike from /rent-a-bike is almost always the right substitute. It is more stable, has a longer range, and is more comfortable on uneven surfaces.
